The stubborn fighter of rocky shores; feeds in broken water.
Habitat
Rocky and weedy bottoms, breakwater blocks, cave mouths.
Behaviour
Comes inshore in rough weather; tests the bait before striking hard.
Feeding
Mussels, sea urchin, crab, marine worms.
Recommended baits
Mussel meat, crab, ragworm, shrimp.
Recommended methods
Ledgering from rocks, light float.
Safe handling and release
Has cutting teeth. Release between waves when fishing from rocks.
Confusable with
Common two-banded seabream; white seabream has vertical dark bars along the body.
