Behaviour
Forages on the bottom, crushing shellfish. Wary — needs fine tackle and quiet.

Mussels, crab, shrimp, marine worms.

Mussel meat, clam, shrimp, ragworm.
Recommended methods
Shore ledgering, light float, anchored boat fishing.
Safe handling and release
Powerful jaws, small teeth. Dorsal spines prick — handle with wet hands.
Confusable with
White and black seabream; the golden band between the eyes is the distinguishing mark.
