Habitat
Fast, cold, clear streams and rivers; under stones and in current seams.
Behaviour
Holds in broken current and takes drifting food. Very sensitive to shadow and vibration.
Feeding
Aquatic insects, larvae, small fish.
Recommended baits
Flies (nymph and dry), small spoons, worm.
Recommended methods
Fly fishing, ultra-light spinning, drifting.
Safe handling and release
Oxygen drops in warm water — in summer, keep the fish in the water when releasing. Prefer barbless hooks.
Confusable with
Rainbow trout, which has a distinct pink lateral band.
