BEST TIMES

Dawn Morning

Thin-lipped mullet favour estuaries and tidal rivers and can be found well up rivers. Unlike the thick-lipped mullet, the classic method is the baited spinner: swap the treble on a small Mepps-type spoon for a single hook, add harbour ragworm and retrieve slowly. The fish often pluck at the bait first, so don't strike at once — keep the spinner moving. Bread under a float or on a light ledger works as for thick-lipped mullet.
