BEST TIMES

Dusk Night

Shore rockling hide in rock holes by day and come out to feed after dark, so rod fishing is only really productive at night. On weedy, mussel-covered and stony shallow shores use a 2–3 hook bottom rig with roughly 20 cm snoods about 30 cm apart. A float rig also helps avoid snags on rock. They are not fussy: mussel, horse mackerel flesh, shrimp, live prawns and lugworm can all work; they swallow hooks deeply, so keep pliers handy.
