BEST TIMES

Dawn Dusk Morning Afternoon

Saithe (coalfish) hunt in mid-water shoals: find them on the sounder and fish that layer. Work sand-eel soft plastics on 30–90 g jig heads much faster than for cod, with sudden stops after a few turns. From a boat a pirk with feathers above it is the classic set-up. With bait, a strong 2/0 hook suits small and big fish alike; on rough ground a weak-link lead cuts tackle losses.
