BEST TIMES

Dusk Afternoon Morning

Roach love hemp, so carry some even if you don't use it on the hook. In rivers look for a gravel bottom where the main flow runs, roughly 4–8 ft deep, and feed little and often: hemp and maggots in groundbait, cupped in, or catapulted every run through. Maggots and casters work when the shoal is numerous but small; hemp or small pellets help pick out the bigger fish. On the hemp line, fine 0.4–0.6 g floats and very fine 0.07–0.08 mm fluorocarbon hooklengths are used.
