BEST TIMES

Dusk Night

Pouting are unfussy scavengers that readily take standard baits such as ragworm, lugworm and mackerel strip. To target them, use a two- or three-hook flapper rig with size 1–2 hooks. They move shallower and feed harder as the sun sets, so dusk and darkness are best. Clean sand and shingle beaches are the top marks, though mixed and rough ground also produce.
