Bull huss are a fish of rocky and broken ground, so look for marks near rocky outcrops where you can cast into a good depth of water. They rest on the seabed by day and feed at night, though coloured water, heavy overcast or deep water can produce them in daylight. Use a single-hook rig, strong 2/0–4/0 hooks (some anglers go up to 6/0) and a fairly big bait; their teeth can wear through light snoods, so 80–100 lb mono is often used. The species is Near Threatened (IUCN) and its skin is even rougher than the dogfish's, so handle it carefully and return it, as most anglers do.
