BEST TIMES

Ling live over deep rough ground and wrecks, seldom shallower than 30 m and usually much deeper. Fish big fish baits or heavy pirks near the bottom from a boat; use large hooks and a heavy trace, and pull the fish clear before it reaches a hole. Ling reeled up from depth suffer swim-bladder damage, so release rarely works: only take what you need. Lead weight can rise sharply with depth and tide.
