BEST TIMES

Night

Sprat are small plankton-feeding schooling fish (most around 12 cm) with little interest in baited hooks, so they are rarely a rod-and-line target. The finest anchovy-style sabiki with the smallest hooks is the most suitable rig. They school inshore and rise to the surface at night, so working a sabiki near the surface at a lit pier makes sense. They are mostly used as bait.
