How to catch it
METHODS
Sabiki / feather rig
LURES
Sabiki feathers
BEST TIMES
Night
A sardine rig is finer than a horse-mackerel or chub-mackerel rig: small hooks (10–12, or 8–11 on boat rigs) on light droppers, dressed with white feather. Lower it under a light at night and work it gently; dark nights around the new moon make the light more attractive, while a full moon can weaken it. The mouth tears very easily: once fish are on, stop jigging and bring the rig up slowly and smoothly.
