Juvenile blackspot seabream live close inshore, while adults are found on the continental slope, mostly at 150–300 m (sometimes deeper), so angling for them is usually deep bottom fishing from a boat. Baits must survive the drop and time on the bottom: use squid, sardine, shrimp or well-secured fish strips. Work short, repeated drifts with the lead touching but not dragging; if the drift is too fast the rig leaves the mark. The species is listed as Near Threatened by IUCN and is highly vulnerable to fishing: keep only what you need, release small fish and always check legal size and bag limits.
