BEST TIMES

Dawn Dusk

Axillary seabream mostly live over seagrass and sand, adults usually at 40–100 m, with juveniles closer inshore. They favour worms, molluscs and small crustaceans, so shrimp, marine worms, squid strip, razor clam and hermit crab make good baits. Pandoras of this kind are suspicious, sucking in the bait very delicately and circling the rig; use a sensitive-tipped rod and a fine fluorocarbon hooklength and watch for micro-bites. If nothing happens, tease them by gently moving the lead on the bottom; dawn and dusk are the most productive times.
