BEST TIMES

Morning Afternoon Dusk

Halibut move shallower in summer; sandy flats of about 20–50 m surrounded by deeper water are worth trying. Work big shads or pirks along the bottom; halibut often follow the lure well up from the bottom, so pause for a few seconds when you feel taps. Bites are scarce without tide and pick up once the current runs; use a drogue to slow the drift. Halibut are endangered and mature late, so release big fish with care.
